I feel again that ISE Webpack and maybe also ISE Foundation is not in a mature state.
Im using release 10.1.02.
After using the step function of the simulator the program got a fatal error.
FATAL_ERROR:Simulator:Fuse.cpp:164:$Id: Fuse.cpp,v 1.35.4.4.2.1 2008/05/02
17:57:52 jimmyw Exp $ - Failed to link the design Process will terminate.
For technical support on this issue, please open a WebCase with this project
attached at http://www.xilinx.com/support.

I hope it will help (again) to open a new project and to copy the vhdl files to that project.
I´ve done this already so many times.

Hello,
Can you try the following :-
Open task manager and make sure that the isim_<file_name>_beh.exe, or a process begining with ISIM, is not running.
If this process is running, close the simulation window if open in ISE, then you can stop the process though task manager.
Once this done, run a project cleanup from the project menu.
Run the simulation once more and this will regenerate the necessary files to run the simulation.
Regards,
Hem.

I have the same problem:
FATAL_ERROR:Simulator:Fuse.cpp:164:$Id: Fuse.cpp,v 1.35.4.4.2.1 2008/05/02
17:57:52 jimmyw Exp $ - Failed to link the design Process will terminate.
I tried Hem's solution, but I could not even remove the files. Eventhough I stopped all processes related to ISE, that I could find, windows still replied that the file was being used by another program and could not be deleted.
I tried to use the Behavioral Check Syntax, but it gets a red mark beforeit has even started without leaving any information in the Console window...

I also have this exact problem, i.e. copied from the problems pane:
FATAL_ERROR:Simulator:Fuse.cpp:164:$Id: Fuse.cpp,v 1.35.4.4.2.1 2008/05/02 17:57:52 jimmyw Exp $ - Failed to link the design
As a newbie, I'm not exactly oriented in the ways of ISE and the simulators yet, but I was (mostly) following the ISE Quickstart Tutorial on the use of the simulator (using the full product in my evaluation period).
When I got to the part where you execute the "Simulate the Behavioral Model" process, the expected output didn't appear, then I noticed this message in the Errors pane.
I'm wondering if there's something not quite right in my installed environment (like a missing dev package) seeing this is Linux, but it's tough to make an educated guess based on this error alone. Some "insider knowledge" would be useful (!).

Well, in my case, there is no executable to clobber. ISE is started on a clean reboot, and after I've loaded the project, attempting the build a behavioural simulation is the first thing I do.
Also, "ps -aux" shows no sign of a previous behavioural simulation executable running.
I'm pretty convinced that I'm looking at a missing Linux package, but haven't figured that out yet. I've left the problem for a few days, but probably now need to figure out how to turn on some extra verbosity in the console/log to diagnose why exactly the linker is failing.

It's worth carefully reading the console output from both "Check Syntax" and the compilation/startup phase of
"Run Behavioural Simulation" before this link error appears - looking for any suspicious WARNINGs.
Suspicious warnings include "missing component" or "component not compiled into library xxx"
(other warnings like range errors in the Xilinx libraries may be present but usually don't matter)
If it can't find everything to link together, it will tend to fail, with poor diagnostics.
Also worth a try is "Project Menu/Cleanup Project Files" followed by "Rerun All" (from the right click menu
under "Run Behavioural Simulation". ISE Simulator doesn't seem to be very good at cleaning out old junk
from errors you fixed previously...

The same problem.Windows XP-32bit SP3, Xilinx ISE 10.1.03.
FATAL_ERROR:Simulator:Fuse.cpp:424:$Id: Fuse.cpp,v 1.35.4.7 2008/05/28 00:03:05
droth Exp $ - Failed to compile generated C code
isim/_tmp/unisim/p_0947159679.c
I’ve tried WEB-pack; also reinstall ISE for five times; project cleanup; downloaded all updates from Xilinx – the problem still remains :(
