Hi all,

I have been using ISE for long time and never

had any problems.

Couple of weeks ago I installed ISE 13.1

because my new board has Spartan6 FPGA and

some IP cores that are available with new CoreGen.

Since I also use 3rd party tools I need .ndf and .ngc files.

For some reason CoreGen that comes with ISE13.1 doesn't

generate ndf file. I tested it on two different computers with

same result. I tried with ISE12.1 and ISE12.2 on same computers

and their CoreGen produces .ndf files with no problem.

I can't see any differences between user interfaces in CoreGen.

I need 13.1 in order to generate new IP cores for Spartan6.

Is there something new that I am not seeing here?

I will appreciate any help on this mater.

I'm not using 13.1 yet, but at least up through 12.x there is an executable in the

ISE\bin\nt directory called ngc2edif.exe, which should be able to convert the .ngc

file to .ndf format.

This did the trick, I can now generate ndf files.

I still don't understand why coregen doesn't do

this anymore but with this workaround I am

back on schedule.

Just an update:

in ISE13.3 this issue hasn't been resolved yet.

What IP core are you using? And what 3rd parth tool are you using? Why do you need both .ndf and .ngc files?

Hi,

thank you for taking interest.

I am using Altium Designer for fpga development, and

it requires both ngc and ndf files in order for its IP

importer to work. Altium is just front end tool so

Xilinx tools are still used for design generation.

I have attached picture of ndf option in CoreGenerator,

when I enable this option in Ise11.x or Ise12.x I get

ngc and ndf file, but this option doesn't work since Ise 13.1

I tried with different cores (block memory, multiplier, TEMAC...)

but its always the same.

Only reason why I switched to ISE13.x is because I designed

board with Spartan6 for Ethernet application and I needed Temac

IP core.
