Hello,
we would like to program a FPGA board for an experiment outside of our university building (where the flexlm server is running) from a laptop, but we are getting cryptic errors from this tool. (we also tried 13.4 in the meantime)
Is that because.
1.) impact is buggy?
2.) you need to use a real (non webpack) license for even programming one of this **bleep** FPGAs, but there is no error message?
3.) another reason?
Regards
Christian Leber

If Boundry Scan is Initialized properly & your device Xc6vlx240T is detected make sure you are assiging proper(configuration) .bit file.

I'm very well aware that the right bitfile is required.
This bitstream is automatically choosen by this most elegant piece of software known to mankind (and there are no different ones for the different package sizes) when i try to program the image to the BPI.
This bitstream is used to program the BPI over JTAG, therefore i can no influence what it is doing.

bitstream is used to program the FPGA device,if you want to program BPI/SPI flash you have to assign .mcs file

When you are too lazy to read the error message, why do you bother to write anything?
Of course I'm using impact in the exact same way outside of the campus like in the lab (on-campus), with a mcs (i also checked the md5). In the lab things work as well as they can - with software from Xilinx. In the lab i'm using the linux 64bit version with floating flexlm licenses. Outside it is webpack on windows 64bit.
So let me precise my question:
Do i need a node locked "real license" on the laptop even to program a FPGA and is impact not able to inform me about this fact?
Luckily our design is technology agnostic, it can be ported to another vendor easily.
Regards
Christian

1.) impact is buggy?
Not particularly so. There are some problems for some host systems with the USB driver, but you are well past that particular problem.
2.) you need to use a real (non webpack) license for even programming one of this **bleep** FPGAs, but there is no error message?

You certainly do not need a paid license for using iMPACT. If you need any license at all, it will be a cost-free license.
Your error message suggests that either the software install was incomplete, a file was corrupted, or perhaps there is a problem with the file path properties such that the BPI core file could not be found on your host system. On the subject of file paths, there is a long and honoured history (or so it seems) of trouble with file paths which include spaces.
Are you able to find the 'missing' file on your host system? If so, what is its full path?
For indirect programming of configuration memory, iMPACT programs the memory device with the help of a dedicated set of logic which includes the physical interface to the memory device. This dedicated interface logic is a small FPGA "core" which iMPACT first loads into the target FPGA. The image file for this core is the problem reported by the error message.
I'm not an iMPACT wizard, I am simply trying to report as much as I think I know as well as what I've read in these forums. If you were not an academic user, I would suggest you open as webcase.

Hi.
Did you ever found the reason for this error?
I am having exactly the same problem with a ML605 board.
