I saw this error in EDK 13.4 (Platform studio). Does anyone know a workaround ?
INTERNAL_ERROR:Xst:cmain.c:3422:1.27 - Process will terminate. For technical support on this issue, please open a WebCase with this project attached at http://www.xilinx.com/support. ERROR:EDK - xst: application received signal 6. ERROR:EDK - Aborting XST flow execution!

Apparently the flow crashed during synthesis. The error suggests you should open a webcase
for the issue. The only other suggestion is to look at any custom code you added to the project
to see if there are problems that might affect synthesis. If you have custom IP, you can try to
run it through a separate ISE project to see if you can get a more useful error message.

I had the same error appear just now. I found the source of the trouble. I was trying to call a function from a package outside of a process.
The synthesizer didn't seem to throw an error. Instead it just bombed out. I think the underlying issue is some of the code in the function requirs a trigger. I'm not quite at that level of understanding yet but can see my error.
Hopefully this helps you out a little. I too found the error message quite erroneous.
