Cross posting or zombie thread ?

I saw Bob "" Elkind recommendations which I consider to be wise, among them :

2. Search the forums for similar topics
3. Don't post the same question on multiple forums

In the other hand, I was put a "zombie  thread" tag on some of my posts and I'm wondering if I did something wrong in adding a post in a somewhat old topic which subject is still relevant for the present time.

For instance this topic :

http://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Implementation/map-multi-threading/td-p/178538

The map multithreading question has not been solved since this topic has started, and I still have questions and information to write about this subject, especially because for some versions of ISE released after the last post, multithreading was said to have been improved. I then checked and my benchmarks didn't show that much (overall implementation was improved, but not the efficiency of multithreading as far as I saw).

I may have been wrong about my benchmark or whatever, it's not the problem here. But what I want to know is : should I ignore "zombie thread" tags and continue adding new posts to old topics, or should I open a new topic on the same subject ?

I don't think you did something wrong, in the referenced thread.  Your post was constructive and informative and relevant.

should I ignore "zombie thread" tags and continue adding new posts to old topics, or should I open a new topic on the same subject ?

I suspect you already know the answer to that question.  If you were a clueless newbie, you would not be taking the time to ask the question.  If you want affirmation from me, it's yours.

If you screw up, someone will let you know.  Even if you do not screw up, you might hear about it (oh, you already did!).

Just my opinions...

3. Do not post the same question on multiple forums.
4. Do not post a new topic or question on someone else's thread, start a new thread!

Re: Cross posting or zombie thread ?

Well I was actually not completely sure about what to do.

I had noticed after a quick search that a few expert contributors here were keen on putting "zombie thread" or "thread piracy" tags everywhere.

My reason told me to ignore it, but as I am less experimented here than these people, I was a bit confused. Needed someone else opinion.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate all your contributions here.

Re: Cross posting or zombie thread ?

Just to add another opinion....

I think you are fine doing what you are doing!

As long as you avoid adding new posts to old threads that have an accepted solution, you should be fine.

(And don't take the addition of any tags personally! :) )

If you come across a problem that has previously been solved, but for which the solution does not work for you, create a new thread and provide a link within it, to the old one.

Re: Cross posting or zombie thread ?

Oh when I said "needed someone else opinion" I meant someone else than me. eteam00's reply was already ok.

But didn't know about :

"If you come across a problem that has previously been solved, but for which the solution does not work for you, create a new thread and provide a link within it, to the old one."

so nice to know, thank you.
