blank lines in new posts are temporarily (or occasionally) disabled

[ Edited ]

Just posted with my typical use of blank lines for readability, and the blank lines were eliminated from the post.  I'm using the rich text editor.  Exhibit A.

Apparently the new text formatting standards are imposed selectively, not all posts are affected.

Here are screen grabs of the edit window and the displayed (submitted) post (i.e. before and after hitting the post button):

I just wanted to be the first to report the new and unannounced "feature".  eyeroll-small.gif

Summary:
1. Read the manual or user guide. Have you read the manual? Can you find the manual?
2. Search the forums (and search the web) for similar topics.
3. Do not post the same question on multiple forums.
4. Do not post a new topic or question on someone else's thread, start a new thread!
5. Students: Copying code is not the same as learning to design.
6 "It does not work" is not a question which can be answered. Provide useful details (with webpage, datasheet links, please).

8. I am not paid for forum posts. If I write a good post, then I have been good for nothing.

Re: blank lines in new posts are temporarily disabled

I've often found that blank lines are removed after pasting text into the

rich text editor.  Often I don't notice this until after I post the message.

In any case you could use the preview tab to see what you're getting before

clicking "post" or use the "Edit Reply" option after you post.

No joy, Gabor!

No joy with this, Gabor!  Blank lines were deleted from the post even after I tried to restore them with "Edit Reply".  The forum formatting gods will not be denied! (see the screen grabs in post #1 in this thread, showing vain attempt to restore blank lines)

(note: out of deference to Gabor's long productive history in these forums, his excellent taste in clothes, and his very dry sense of humour, I have ignored any suggestion of insult that -- after almost 6 000 forum posts -- I am yet unaware of the 'edit reply' or 'preview' facilities)

I tried to edit the linked post, one more time, and still could not achieve blank lines.  Apparently this problem is selective, and not universal or global.  Do you have the same affection for seemingly random behaviour in tools and applications as I do?

Re: No joy, Gabor!

As I hope you can all imagine - this is not a deliberate feature! Bob, I took the liberty of trying to add an empty line to your 'squashed up' post but the space was not included after posting. This proves that the problem is specific to the post and not to the user, but that's about all it proves. I'll find out if this is a known issue on Monday. Another day another weird occurrence! This proves the problem is contagious...  Uninfected forum users, BEWARE!

(P.S.  I did not use an iPad, just my normal PC)

This is probably a low-priority forum software issue, especially compared to the spammers and mutating links problems.

Re: No joy, Gabor!

Bob, Did you edit message 6 in this thread, or did the spacing happen correctly first time?

My post 7 in this thread worked properly.

Yes to both questions, Caroline.

Re: No joy, Gabor!

In that case, I'll take no further action on this one....until it is reported that this has happened again.

I'll get back to my spam tackling and fixing broken links! :)
