Re: kitten suppression, please

I've just turned off emoticons.

They had really started to annoy me, popping up all over the place.

There was no other quick solution.

A moderator's gotta do what a moderator's gotta do!

You should expect an indignant letter from the Emoticon Protection Society, or the Kute Kitties Konservation Klub.

Re: kitten suppression, please

[ Edited ]

Hmmm, it seems that the "insert emoticon" button is still enabled, even though I have disabled it on the back-end.

We might get the odd instance of, ":smileyhappy:".

But, at least error messages and code won't have cats appearing in them.

I'll see if I can get the "insert emoticon" button greyed out somehow.

This is the source of frustration and annoyance.  If you have diabled auto-kitty, globally, I think your work is done.

Is there any hope of undoing the many herds of kitties already unintentionally created, in existing posts?

No harm in this, but is this a worry?  I haven't noticed excessive intentional use of emoticons, just the annoying unintended results of auto-kitty.

I did a quick search on "ERROR:Place" which I know was causing problems.

I had a look through the first few posts which were returned and none of them contained emoticons.

Let me know if you see any! I am hoping this has taken care of itself.

Best regards,
Caroline

Re: kitten suppression, please

I note a few posts containing the text ":smileyhappy:", which suggests that you have killed the image smileys stone dead. Well done!

Re: kitten suppression, please

One final update on this.....

The "Insert Emoticons" option (which used to reside in between the "Paste from Word" and "Insert Horizontal Ruler" options within the menu of  the Rich Text editor) has been removed.

No more error messages with cats in them and no more "smiley:happy" messages!

Hooray! :-)
