unindent is un-functional

[ Edited ]

A text editing irritation which would be nice to eliminate:

The "unindent" button does not work.  Once an indent attribute has been applied to text, there is no going back short of ctrl-z or delete-and-replace.

This irritation is seen in both FireFox11 and IE9 browsers.

This bug has been around for a looooooong time.

Re: unindent is un-functional

Thanks for reporting this, Bob.

I have reported it to Lithium as a bug.

(We have the same problem in our test environment too.)

Hopefully they can fix this pretty quickly.

Regards,
Caroline.

I wonder if editing in the HTML view is a workaround?

Answer: yes it is.  In HTML view, replace

with

Re: unindent is un-functional

I personally find the WYSIWYG editor to be so annoying for anything other than an all-text reply that I do all of my message composition in HTML mode!

Interesting joelby, high praise indeed! :)

Obviously, the WYSIWYG editor is supplied to us by Lithium, but not so obviously, it is not actually their own!

All the communities they host have the same editor and hence, presumably, the same frustratrions.

I will provide them with this feedback, in case they are looking at alternatives anyway, and need further ammunition!

NO!  Don't do this!  If you tell Lithium that our users are using HTML for text entry, Lithium will assume that further imporovements on the Rich text Editor are unnecessary!

I am reminded of a SouthWest Airlines (or perhaps Alaska Airlines) advert campaign from many years ago (and I paraphrase from memory):

Announcer:  I see that you once had flights from  Dallas to Los Angeles with a stop in Santa Fe, but you have changed those flights to end at Santa Fe.  Why?

Airline X:  Yes, this is one example of listening to our customers.  It turns out that most of our Dallas-to-Los Angeles flight customers told us they wanted to get off the plane much sooner.

Announcer:  And I see that you no longer offer lunch meals on your flights...

Airline X:  Another good example of hearing what our customers have to say.  They overwhelmingly told us they would rather not eat the lunch meals we provided, and we listened!

You get the idea....  :)

Re: unindent is un-functional

I get your point!

In that case, I shall rephrase.....and let them know that basically, them calling their text editor a "WYSIWYG" is a complete misnomer! Many Xilinx customers have noticed this, as proven  by the number of 'broken features' mentioned in this board.

I will NOT mention that many of our customers have the technical know-how to work around the limitations by using HTML, as obviously, they should not be relying on that.

Either they need to improve things, or "fess-up" and rename their editor to a "WYSINWYG".! :)

Caroline

I like that!   And tell the Lithium folks they have to use their own b$**#y WYSINWYG editor, themselves, until they get it fixed!

Ooops, scratch that.  I would not want to see Lthium writing their code with that editor to develop software we will use... <shiverrrr> !
