Access floating license via URL?

Is it possible to set up a floating license server that can be accessed via an internet URL instead of a LAN address?  I want to use ISE in an educational environment and most students prefer to have the ISE software on their own machines to complete assignments at home.

 

If so, can someone please direct me to the instructions on how to do this? 

 

In the license configuration manager, there are two environment variables: XILINXD_LICENSE_FILE and LM_LICENSE_FILE that are used to point to the license server, but the examples given are LAN addresses (no URLs are given in the examples).  I do not want to commit to a floating license until I know that I can provide off-campus access to my students this way.

 

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

By URL, I assume you are referring to a web server? If yes, you can use the same web server as your floating licenser server as long as the firewall on the web server allows incoming/outgoing packets on the port number used by the license server.
