Installation and Licensing

Hi everybody,

I am having great difficulties and problems with installing and running my Xilinx ISE 10.1 programm on my new laptop. It is a HP Pavilion, with Windows Vista Home Edition 64 bit.

Can someone please give me some solutions (some step by step suggestions)?

I am a fresher in these stuff, and badly need help from some gurus.

so no way of using ISE 10.1 on Vista? ... :(

what would you suggest me as an alternative? should i install xp? or make a partition with xp?

Well if it's Webpack, you may have problems with any 64-bit OS, Windows or otherwise.

I don't know if there is any resolution on Windows except to install a 32-bit version.

However Webpack works just fine under OpenSuse 11 64-bit, with the 32-bit compatibility libraries installed.

You have to comment out the "exit" in the setup.sh script where it detects a 64-bit Linux and wants to give up;

it will then happily go on to install, and work.

(Other 64-bit Linux distros may or may not work too, if they have the 32-bit compatibility libraries; I haven't tried.)

You said you are trying to install it on 64-bit Vista Home. That chart indicates that none of the Home versions of Vista are supported at all, and futhermore, it says that none of the 64-bit versions are supported.

So you need 32-bit XP or Vista Business.

Yes I am thinking of doing a dual boot of XP 32 with the already installed vista 64. My laptop is a HP dv9999nr with 4GB RAM and 250GB harddisk ... I hope that it works out.

ATTENTION!

A friend of mine managed to install Xilinx ISE v10.1 (32-bit) on Windows Vista 64-bit (as the 32bit ise is more powerful than the 64 bit version)

NOTE: This is a workaround, not supported by Xilinx, use at your own risk!

1) Insert your Install DVD, disable your antivirus software

2) Browse to   X:\bin\nt   (X is your DVD letter)

3) Run setup.exe as an administrator

4) Proceed as usual

This will install the 32 bit version on ISE, we have tested it and it works flawlessly! (synthesis, fitting, simulation, etc...)

We'll try to install ISE v10.1 on Win7 x64, stay tuned!

I had problems installing initially, but after Windows decided it wasn't running right and changed to run in 32 bit mode, it seems to have installed and is running just fine.

I haven't played with all the bells and whistles. But it looks like it's working.

Use the trick mentioned above for Vista 64, run setup.exe as administrator from \bin\nt\

netshark's post is the way that we "work around" this internally.  It's definitely not a supported scenario, but it does appear to work in most cases.  Also, note that on Windows 7 our USB cable drivers are not digitally signed to Windows' liking and most likely won't work for writing to a board (or, will work only intermittently).
