Dear List,
I’ve just bought A Spartan-6 LX9 MicroBoard, Installed ISE 13.2, downloaded and installed the SDK device locked license, and tried to do my first tutorial: Spartan-6 LX9 MicroBoard Embedded Tutorial, Tutorial 1, creating an AXI-based Embedded System (v13.2.01).
Everything works fine until I come to the point:
“Double-click on Generate Top HDL Source in the Processes window.”
which fails with:
Started : "XPS Process: Generate Top HDL Source".
Release 13.2 - platgen Xilinx EDK 13.2 Build EDK_O.61xd (nt64)

My question: Is this supposed to work, what am I doing wrong, and how do I fix this?
I’ve made sure the MAC address in the SDK license is correct (by wasting 2 license relocations). I'm completely stuck; some pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards, Henk-Jan

Austin, thank you for your quick replay.
I indeed did check (before posting) whether something in the faq and mailinglist can close.
The XLCM has an SDK item as expected. The one thing I find suspicious is that the VENDOR_STRING henkjan@cs.uu.nl,6SLX9_MICRO_SDK,software,permanen
Some (other) pointers are appreciated.
Kind regards,
Henk-Jan.

Hello Henk-Jan,
The reason why you are getting this EDK error, i.e. ERROR:Security:9 - No 'XPS' feature was available for part 'xc6slx9' or “ERROR:EDK - A license was not found for the XPS Feature”, is because the license that came with your Spartan 6 LX9 MicroBoard Kit from Avnet (6SLX9_MICRO_SDK Nodelocked license), only supports the following features: SDK, ChipscopePro, PlanAhead and WebPACK features, but not XPS.
So, if you wish to successfully use XPS, you can either generate a 30-day evaluation license or would need to purchase a full license for ISE (i.e. System Edition license; or you may just purchase an EDK standalone license if you wish, and as I know it will cost you less than a full license and only supports XPS and SDK features).
A 30-day evaluation license allows you to target every Xilinx device and run all Xilinx applications (including bitstream generation). The limitation is that the license expires after 30-day.
You can generate the evaluation license from here: www.xilinx.com/getlicenses. Login and once you are in the Product Licensing page, here you will see what licenses you are entitled to, including a 30-day evaluation.
(Note, if you exhausted the alloted number of rehost chances, then you must contact Xilinx Customer Service in order re-enable the rehost option. You can reach the Xilinx Customer Service team directly by sending email to:
North America: isscs_cases@xilinx.com
Europe: eucases@xilinx.com
Asia (including Japan): apaccase@xilinx.com)
If you need the price list for the licenses, please contact the Xilinx Distributor in your area (i.e. for the list of distributors, please have a look here http://www.xilinx.com/company/contact/auth-disti-t
Have a nice day.
Kind Regards,
Anatoli

Thank you Anatoli,
This explains it. For a newbie all the different tools from different vendors with different licenses can be quite confusing...
Regards
HJ!

I want copy my license.lic in SDK application. Why this isn't possible?

Hello Pietro,
If you are trying to use this device Locked SP605_Logic_Edition license with SDK, then you won’t be able to use this tool with that particular license file, as SDK requires an “SDK” feature. SP605_Logic_Edition licenses only support the following feature:
ChipscopePro, ChipscopePro_SIOTK, PlanAhead, ISIM, etc.
But unfortunately not XPS or SDK and if you need to successfully use SDK, you can either generate a 30-day evaluation license (please see the previous posts above regarding this) or you would need to purchase a full license for ISE (e.g. System Edition license; or you may just purchase an EDK standalone license if you wish, and as I know it will cost you less than a full license and only supports XPS and SDK features).
Regards,
Anatoli
