Error with Compile HDL Simulation Libraries from ISE 11.1 with Modelsim Student Edition 10.0a

Dear Xilinx Support Team,

i habe installed ISE 11.1 (i only work till now with Spartan 3E Boards) and the Modelsim Student Edition 10.0a on my Windows 7 - 32 Bit Dell Computer. I want to compile the Simulation Libraries from Xilinx with this simulator for gatelevel simulation, but i got the following error messages:

I have made all entries, so do you know, what is wrong with this compilations?

look carefully at the output:

ERROR:Compxlib - Compxlib does not support mti_pe version 6.4a or prior releases.

No i did look very carefully, but i wanted you to look there again and think that if you do not have PE edition, but have student edition, and it still throws such an error maybe it just interprets student edition like PE?

no need for so many exclamation marks.

I remember i used once to compile them with Modelsim SE & ISE 13.1 though.. but it worked.

I have installed Modelsim PE Student Edition 10.0a! OK so far??? And Xilinx just let you select Modelsim-PE VHDL Version. Modelsim SE dont mean Student Edition but Spezial Edition!

Re: Error with Compile HDL Simulation Libraries from ISE 11.1 with Modelsim Student Edition 10.0a

Hi,

The string returned for version from the Student Edition is different from the PE/SE/DE editions this is why once we got the exact string that is used with the Student Edition we fixed that in Compxlib and it now works in ISE DS 13.1 onwards..

This is why in 11.1 it is not going to work and the only version that will work with the Student Edition (Still unsupported) is 13.1 and beyond.

Thanks

Duth

Re: Error with Compile HDL Simulation Libraries from ISE 11.1 with Modelsim Student Edition 10.0a

Hi Duth,

thanks for your fast answer. I have deinstalled ISE 11.1 and then installed ISE 13.2. With the simulator setting Modelsim-PE VHDL it was possible, to compile the Simulation Libraries. But it was also necessary to add the following text in the modelsim.ini file, in order to make a post-route simulation:

Best regards

Re: Error with Compile HDL Simulation Libraries from ISE 11.1 with Modelsim Student Edition 10.0a

Hi Kurt,

That is not needed as Compxlib does this mappping for you. Are you certain you are looking at the ini file in the compiled directory?

Compxlib calks the ModelSim vmap command, so based on how the environemnt settings are the simulator may write it to a local ini file. To overwrite the master ini file if you have the MODELSIM environment variable set..

Thanks

Duth

Re: Error with Compile HDL Simulation Libraries from ISE 11.1 with Modelsim Student Edition 10.0a

Hi Duth,

i have looked into the installation directory, where compxlib started to compile the libraries, but there was no modelsi.ini file.

The only MODELSIM environment variable set was LM_LICENSE_FILE and PATH. Do you mean the variable MODELTECH? This one was not set in the windows user-system-variable.

Best regards

Kurt

Re: Error with Compile HDL Simulation Libraries from ISE 11.1 with Modelsim Student Edition 10.0a

Hi Kurt,

You should see the ini file in the directory you ran compxlib at. Are you sure you are looking at the same folder that has the log file as well as the cfg file? In this folder, Compxlib will write the mapping file. Anyways in case you lost it, you can always have compxlib generate it again. If you run the same command you ran initially, withouth the -w switch, then it will write a mapping file for you.

BTW this is documented in the command line tools ref guide - Compxlib Chapter.

Thanks

Duth
