After making it work, only a dumbass (in the sense as you introduced this term) will not critically review what he/she has done and fix things you "made just work". Fixing in this context means to me refactoring the stuff you did make it right and maybe optimize it. The one maintaining your stuff later on (maybe you) will appreciate that.
@uni
Of course, you are making sound and valid points. The post to which you were responding was my latest effort at dry and subtle wit, or humour. Apparently my humour was a bit too subtle. And I omitted the customary smiley face.
Let me explain (never a good preamble for either comedians or politicians): I followed the term 'dumbass' with the exhortation 'watch your language'. Too subtle, eh?
Apologies for the confusion. I've been told that my sense of humour is an 'acquired taste'. Whatever...
Good luck in your design. I'm sure your SER/DES implementation will be very popular if you decide to post it.

Summary:
1. Read the manual or user guide. Have you read the manual? Can you find the manual?
2. Search the forums (and search the web) for similar topics.
3. Do not post the same question on multiple forums.
4. Do not post a new topic or question on someone else's thread, start a new thread!
5. Students: Copying code is not the same as learning to design.
6 "It does not work" is not a question which can be answered. Provide useful details (with webpage, datasheet links, please).
7. You are not charged extra fees for comments in your code.
8. I am not paid for forum posts. If I write a good post, then I have been good for nothing.

Obviously too subtle for a non-native english speaker ;-) Maybe it was the subtle humour in combination with your 4-letter answer at the very beginning and the lack of the possibility to interpret your mimic that made me believe you're expressing your deepest belief. - My fault.

My fault.
Rest assured, the fault was mine. I was a bit too lazy in my communications, more than once.
I apologise. As a newcomer to these forums, you shouldn't be left in the position where you must guess what my words really mean. That is frustrating to me when others do it, and that's exactly what I did in this thread.

Goddammit, now I'm looking at modifying my SPI master to use the V4's ISERDES and OSERDES features.
Your design doesn't work well enough, that's why you feel compelled to fix it? 'Cuz every engineer knows that if it isn't broke, only a dumbass (even if it's a talented and charming dumbass) would go ahead and fix it anyway.
If you do this more than once, you realise this makes you a serial offender.
And watch your language, there are little kids reading these posts!

Serial offender ... heh heh heh ...
Anyways, my design is PERFECT AS IS. I am just trying to reach a higher level of perfection.
After all, Bodhisattva is more than just a Steely Dan song.
