I recently acquired a Spartan 3A Video Starter Kit (VSK) with ISE 10.1.

I'm currently working on a WinXP SP3 machine. I installed the software provided and updated successfuly.

Opening the Camera Frame Buffer Demo, or any other demos provided on the companion disk produced various errors associated to tcl and jre missing libraries.

ERROR:MDT - $XILINX does not have tcl8.4 library installed
application-specific initialization failed: Can't find a usable init.tcl in the following directories: 
    {C:\Xilinx\10.1\EDK;C:\Xilinx\10.1\ISE/bin/lib/tcl8.4}

Generating Block Diagram : C:\Xilinx\EDK_Demonstrations\EDK_Demonstrations\Camera_Frame_Buffer_Demo\blkdiagram\system.html...
ERROR:MDT - Could not locate JVM dynamic library jre\bin\client 
ERROR:MDT - Block Diagram Rendering engine cannot render.

 Investigating the directories showed that tcl8.4 was missing, with tcllib1.7 only available. I copied in a tcl8.4 library directory from another ISE 13.x install on another machine.

Regarding java there was a jre_142 directory that I copied, pasted and renamed as jre to conform with the naming errors and I was able to bypass these errors and successfully generate the demos block diagram in XPS.

Currently attempting to generate the bitstream file produces errors regarding the speed grade:

ERROR:MDT - Invalid target speed '-4'
ERROR:MDT - platgen failed with errors!
make: *** [implementation/system.bmm] Error 2

 Attempting to modify settings under the Projects Options tab or under the Project Information Area results in a critical force close error:

FATAL_ERROR:GuiUtilities:Gq_Application.c:590:1.20 - This application has discovered an exceptional condition from which it cannot recover.  Process will terminate. For technical support on this issue, please open a WebCase with this project attached at http://www.xilinx.com/support.

I made a post regarding my current situation last week under EDK and Platform Studio, but received no comments. I'm posting/updating my situation under this section as it is more active and have deleted my previous thread.

I have searched the Xilinx site and forum and read any related topics. I have done various complete reinstalls and updates with no change.

Any help would be appreciated.
