The current draw is dependant on the design. The larger and faste the design, the more toggling bits, and the higher the power consumption.

Yes, I'm hoping it was just faulty, otherwise I don't know how an unconfigured system could draw that much current, unless the Virtex-4 fan is doing it.
However, in order to use the board, I need to know if the extra power supplies I have available actually can work without any more problems. I have a spare 5V 4.5A power supply, and I'll need to be able to power the PC4 cable from the PS/2 port on the ML402. I'll be running with the Virtex-4 using 50 - 90% of its logic resources, and the VIODC will have its standard bitstream loaded. I don't want to assume I can use it though, since I assume that Xilinx wouldn't randomly throw in a 5V 6.5A power supply unless the system has the potential to use more current than the 4.5A supply can provide. Also, I do not have access to a benchtop power supply, so I need to find a suitable AC adapter. Digi-Key does not normally stock the supply that matches the one that came with the kit, so getting a replacement isn't swift. I also haven't seen many 5V 6.5A or greater AC adapters during my searches - those I have found in stock require a minimum order that is greater than 1.
