Single ended input to XADC

Jump to solution

Hi,

I am using Zynq ZC7020 family device and I have 6 single ended analog inputs. How can I connect single ended inputs to XADC IP?

Can I connect the ADxP pins as the analog input and use the corresponding ADxN pin for some other signal connection? I am short of pins so is it possible to connect only P pins to XADC IP core.

Regards,

Bhavya K

UG 480 is your friend

https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/user_guides/ug480_7Series_XADC.pdf

page 17 has

"All analog input channels are differential and require two package balls"

". The auxiliary analog inputs are enabled by connecting the analog inputs on the XADC primitive to the top level of the design. When enabled as analog inputs, these package balls are unavailable as digital I/Os. "

Must admit, its the only way I've used the thing,

If you can, an external Analog Mux might save you some pins,

see page 63

Hi,

So if the AD pins are not used for analog inputs can it be used as single ended digital IOs? I know the tool does not throw any error but just to confirm

Basicaly Yes,

If you bring out to the top level the pair of analog pins,

     you use two pins,

Else they are 'almost' like ever other IO pin,

Just be careful on the IO standards they can support if you have a mixture of analog and digital in the bank

and keep in mind, that tracks with digits on them, toggling near analog lines , causes noise pick up on the analog,

so route acordingly  ( analog differential pair routing )
