The Signal Processing Blockset and Toolbox are not required to simulate and generate System Generator for DSP blocks. However without the Signal Processing Blockset you will not be able to utilize the FDATool block in the Xilinx Blockset which allows you to directly import coefficients from the FDATool.
Additionally several Xilinx examples utilize Simulink blocks from the Signal Processing blockset for simulation. You will be able to generate these examples however you will not be able to simulate them without modification. So while the Signal Processing blockset is not required it is recommended.
I am working in a C development group which create DSP algorithms to be ran in a PC.
We are considering different real time hardware plateforms in which implement this algorithms. Our first choice is Xilinx virtex4.
We need a hdl generator and we are also considering if it would be useful for us to get SysGen as we usually do not code any algorithm in matlab. We all have matlab notions but the code we have to implement into the FPGA is originally written in C.
Do we need much previous experience in Simulink to use SysGen??
Is Sysgen targeted to meet our actual needs or should we consider other different options??
Manuel - System Generator is a very intuitive tool to use but it helps to have Simulink knowledge. It would be good to understand your use in more detail to give you a good answer.
