The new platform, Helix Virtualization Platform, combines Wind River Linux and VxWorks under a common virtualization platform on the Xilinx Zynq® UltraScale+™ MPSoC.

Wind River introduced the newest cutting-edge addition to our comprehensive edge compute software portfolio at Embedded World. Wind River Helix virtualization platform was selected as “Best in Show” within Development Tools and Operating Systems category.

Enabling next-generation aerospace and defense systems requires a consolidated approach that brings together the entire ecosystem, from silicon up to the application level. The Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC device family is a great foundation for the high-performance computing applications that manufacturers are developing today. The industry’s first hardware programmable heterogeneous multi-processor SoCs can enable mission-critical and safety applications to run at the desired performance levels in a low size, weight, and power (SWaP) envelope and in a cost-effective way. The operating system and applications expand on top of this flexible and reconfigurable high-performance programmable logic.

With Wind River Helix Virtualization Platform, designers can drastically simplify the development of today’s complex embedded solutions. This increase in system complexity is fueled by: the demand for more intelligence at the edge while offering a path toward autonomous systems; the need to evolve and modernize legacy systems while simultaneously supporting existing applications; the cost and effort of supporting mandated safety regulations; and keeping pace with innovation.

But what does this really mean?  Let me break it down…

  1. You’ve written thousands of lines of code that have already been certified and deployed. But now it’s time to make your design more intelligent through various forms of AI, such as machine learning and computer vision. With Helix Platform, you can keep your VxWorks applications and run them alongside new applications written in Linux or other OSes.   2.
