Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

I was able to change the number of topics on a page by going to My settings -> Preferences -> Linear Layout. However, it only takes effect if I'm logged in. When I'm logged out I get the default again.

The the avatar shape was changed from square to round, but  the avatars weren't redrawn to fit; they are just masked. It looks like the mask is left justified (instead of center justified) on many of them, so the avatars are mostly unrecognizable.

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

Hi @josephsamson,
Thank you for the feedback. Yes, your personal settings only take effect when logged into Forums. This functionality has not changed. I see the Avatar that you are using is from a retired Avatar collection that is no longer available. If you update to the latest Avatar collection, this should resolve the Avatar issue but I do realize that some members like the classic design so totally up to you! :)

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

Hello,

After redesign I stop receiving Weekly Digest Subscription emails.

Also the Forums are really not convenient, for example you want to use AXI Infrastructure Forum, you need to search for it, expand many folder.

Not so funny~

thanks

Hayk

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

Hello all,

First...a lot changes have been deployed so please clear your cache. Thanks.

Community Forums Responsive Upgrade Feedback Update:

1. Too much white space

Adjusted size to 90% width at the largest break-point

2. Not sure where to find Notifications, My Profile, Messages etc.

messages.png

3. Font size too large

This is the recommended font size for optimal viewing across multiple devices

4. Want Recent Posts/Community Activity back at top of page

Fix: Moved to top of page

5. # of Posts visible on screen is not enough. Should be 20 or more

Fix: Changed to 30

6. <insert code> box... box is far too narrow now to read the code even with slider at the bottom with long piece of code.  Example: ttps://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Synthesis/How-to-do-rational-division-of-a-clock-to-generate-a-clock/m-p/844672

Fix: Adjusted size to 90% width at the largest break-point

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

MUCH BETTER!     Code boxes look great now.    and for the font size..   this is easy enough to adjust on the fly by holding down the control key and using the mouse scroll wheel..    It's pretty easy to scale the font on the fly until it looks right.      and it's also easy to see the latest postings with a pretty decent number of posts visible on screen.   30 seems like a pretty good number.     But I do have a suggestion for another category of posts...     "The Unanswered Posts".    When I'm looking for an question to answer, that would help a lot to have a link to click that brings up a list of posts... that for one reason or another... nobody has answered.     We could also just as well create a category,  "Unsolved Posts",  but this category would probably have tens of thousands of entries.

It's definitely llooking better now..  Thank you!

This layout is much better, now using the full width when reading posts.

There still is too much wasted space on the forum summary pages; each topic could be reduced to a single line each by removing the user icon and placing all the text onto the same line :

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

@stacias

Other loss of functionality:
When reading posts, the old interface displayed the following information:

  •     date of last edit
  •     number of views

Both of these useful fields are missing from the new forum browser.

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback , closing the loop

I wonder,

we are trying to patch the new layout / format.

Where as I would have thought we wanted to use the old forums that worked as the basis, what is better in the new forums than on the old,

Could we know what was seen as a problem with the old layout, and how the new was designed to improve on that ,

then we could as my old English master used to say , "contrast and compare"

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

Hello @necare81,

Thank you for your feedback. I am not able to reproduce the jumping of the screen issue. Can you please provide a screenshot?

The Xilinx website supports the following web browsers:
ChromeFirefoxInternet Explorer 11, and Safari.

If you are not using one of these browsers (or versions), your experience may be decreased.

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

One bit of wasted space, at least for me is the New Solutions spot at the bottom of the Community Forums > Forums page.  I don't look for solutions to problems I don't know that I have.  I do look for new posts to see if there is a problem I can help with.  There should be a way to customize this page to show Newest Posts, not New Solutions.

Re: Community Forums 2018 redesign feedback

Black-on-bright-white motif is not easy on the eyes.

Is it possible to implement a variety of display motifs, including a light on dark option?  Possibilities include:

  • Foreground Colours
    • Forest-Green
    • Blue-Gray
    • Amber
  • Background Colours
    • Black
    • Dark Gray
    • Dark Blue

My tired, old eyes give you many tanks.

Kind Regards,
Peimann, S. M.
