HW_Server Version ?

Jump to solution

Hi,

I updated Vivado 2018.2 to update 1 (Xilinx_Vivado_SDx_Update_2018.2.1_0726_1815.tar.gz),

followed by update 2 (Xilinx_Vivado_SDx_Update_2018.2.2_1001_1805.tar.gz).

However, the Lab solutions (incl. hw_server) on my Windows 10 host did not get any update; it already has latest version.(Xilinx_Vivado_Lab_Win_2018.2_0614_1954.tar.gz)

Which means .... I get this crap error when trying to program my device:

2019-01-25 17_28_40-Ubuntu 16.04 LTS [Running] - Oracle VM VirtualBox.png

How should this be resolved?

Best Regards,

Kristof

Hi kli@melexis.com,

Just so I understand better, is the Windows 10 host some remote machine running the Vivado Lab 2018.2, and you are trying to connect to it from your local/personal machine now running 2018.2.2?

Basically, the rule is that the HW Manager (actually the hw_server process) does not talk to any Vivado/SDK that is newer than itself.

So a connection with Vivado/SDK version 2018.2.2 -> HW Server 2018.2 is not allowed.

A connection with Vivado/SDK version 2018.2 -> HW Server 2018.2.2 (or 2018.3) is OK.

So you have two options:

You can keep your Vivado 2018.2.2 on your local machine and also install LabTools 2018.2 on the same local machine. All design work can be carried out on Vivado 2018.2.2. When you wish to use the hw_server 2018.2 on your Lab machine, you can connect with the LabTools 2018.2 on your local machine (not directly from Vivado 2018.2.2).

You can also upgrade your lab machine with the LabTools 2018.3, so your local Vivado will actually be older than the LabTools in the Lab.

Thanks,

Hi,

If that's the case I'm just lucky that 2018.3 Lab Solutions got released recently !

because otherwise I would get stuck in this situation.

Best Regards,

Kristof
