Vivado - Programming (Stand alone)

Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question......

I am using 7 series devices, have only just upgraded to Vivado (from ISE) and notice that programming facilities are built in.

On older (existing products) we have ompact only imstalled on production PCs for programming. What is the intention for this scenario going forward - has support for impact now stopped (as with ISE). If there an alternative stand alone programmer provided by xilinx?

Re: Vivado - Programming (Stand alone)

Hello,

If you are designing your project with Vivado Design Suite, then you need to configure the device using Hardware Manager. Since ISE Design Suite is in maintenance mode, no further advancements will be made to iMPACT as well. To know further details, please check page no. 20 from below user guide

Re: Vivado - Programming (Stand alone)

Hi,

In the meantime, you can use below workarounds.

(1) When using the Vivado ILA core, you need vse_server: you can install the WebPACK version of Vivado which has a smaller footprint than the full Vivado version.

(2) When using the Chipscope ILA, you can use the cse_server that comes with the ISE LabTools.

(3) If you require programming capabilities and no logic debug capability, you can use iMPACT from the ISE LabTools install.

The Vivado Design Suite User Guide: Programming and Debugging (UG908) describes how to use Vivado vcse_server in a local and remote lab environment: Chapter 5: section "Using Vivado Logic Analyzer in a Lab Environment".
