xilinx FPGA Spartan-6

Hi all,

If I was loading .BIT file through JTAG into spartan-6, where this Bit file will be loaded or stored in Xilinx FPGA spartan-6. Example: Like Intel will load files in configuration flash memory.

Thanks.

Re: xilinx FPGA General

@sivakumarreddy50,

I think Xilinx also has an internal configuration memory.

Re: xilinx FPGA General

You can load the Spartan 6 through JTAG and it will configure the FPGA.  This is volatile.  Turn off the power and the programming goes away.  You can put a non-volatile memory (flash) on the poard and program it with a file and the FPGA will boot from the flash on power up.  You need to use ISE PROMGEN to turn the bitfile into a format suitable for the flash.

Re: xilinx FPGA General

I'm asking where those files will reside in FPGA.

Re: xilinx FPGA General

As with any of the volatile FPGAs, the files are stored in the SRAM associated with the individual LUTs.
