How to properly add generic to Xilinx ISE Schematic?

Jump to solution

I'm using Xilinx ISE 14.7 Project Navigator Schematic entry to add a VHDL module that defines a generic.   However, when I Systhesize the project I get the following error.

ERROR:HDLCompiler:1314 - "/home/ise/ise_projects/PFAL_AIU_FPGA/Top_Level.vhf" Line 1929: Formal port/generic <divider> is not declared in <clock_divider>

The VHDL file contains the following generic:

entity clock_divider is
  Generic ( divider : integer := 8000000);
  Port ( clk_in : in  STD_LOGIC;
           clk_out : out  STD_LOGIC);
end clock_divider;

I've also added and Attribute to the schematic entry block as 'divider' with the integer value '8000000'

I found that when you generate the Implement the Top Level module for the schematic it leaves out the generic for the VHDL component.

How do I get the tool to generate the generic for the VHDL component?

As a side note.
Not many people use the schematic entry system, its deemed old fashioned.

If your learning, dont go down the schematic route.
