How to reflect changes of RTL of a packaged IP?

Jump to solution

In the block design based project on Vivado 2018.3 on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, for add some modifications for the RTL based user IP, I opened the block diagram and ran "Edit in IP Packager".

I added some modifications to RTL and saved RTL files, and checked "File Groups" to run "Merge changes from File Groups Wizard", and I checked "Review and Package" to do "Re-Package IP" the IP.

But modifications of RTL is not reflected in Block Design.

The Place of the project is "/home/work/ultrascale-plus/", and the place of RTL source codes of the user IP is "home/work/rtl/".

In the block design, the user IP references "home/work/ultrascale-plus/project_name.srcs/sources_1/bd/project_name/rtl", and RTL source codes in this folder don't reflect modifications with IP packager.

What is measure to reflect the modifications of RTL with IP packager to the block design?

Hi gabed, I'm sorry for late response.

I tried to do "Re-Package IP" in your reply.

Only to do "Re-Package IP" in IP Packager made no effects.

I tried to do "Replace File" command for changed RTL file in IP Packeger, and "Re-Package IP".

It made effect to reflect changes of RTL to IP.

Thanks for your idea.

Hi @pinewood

In the GUI, after Re-Package IP, you should see a prompt bar on the top of your block design: "The design has <x> blocks that need to be upgraded..."

In this prompt, click the 'Show IP Status', and review the out-of-date IP at the bottom of the GUI.

Select the IP to be upgraded and click 'upgrade selected.'

Cheers

I found fastest solution of the same case.

I updated RTL files using with "IP Packager", but Vivado refused to update RTL files absolutely.

The project should not be abandoned, but Vivado not update files properly.

Old RTL files in project directory "top.srcs/sources_1/bd/top/rtl/<module name>/RTL.v" should be over writed by updated RTL files using with copy command of the platform OS.
