I am trying to implement multiple ISE 8.1i designs under OpenSuse 13.1 that have been working under Windows XP ISE for many years. When I attempt to run the synthesis process at any level on any design, the console results report no errors. Yet, "Process 'Synthesis' failed" is always reported.
I suspect this is an installation issue or a Linux compatibility problem since there's no design issues with any of the 5 (Again, already implemented and working for over a decade using the Windows XP ISE of the same version) FPGA designs I'm trying to replicate. My suspicion is that xst may not be returning a good status to ISE, even though the synthesis process is successful. But that's only a guess...
I have installed and tried both the 32bit and 64bit versions of ISE, with the same results.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?
Thank you,

Update:
If I run xst from the command line on the generated design.xst script, synthesis returns exit status 0. ISE should not be reporting failed.

Just in case... I'm using ISE 8.1i SP3
