Missing folder " .Xil " in vivado project

Jump to solution

In the Project directory, their is a folder call .Xil, what is function of this folder?

I got this error from Vivado :

  • [Common 17-37] Directory in which file design2_propImpl.xdc is to be written does not exist [c:/tomc/development2/laser/.Xil]

I noticed some of my project also have this folder but when I check the lase/.Xil folder which Vivado complains about, it is not there.

Hi @tchin123,

The .Xil directory is a temporary bookkeeping directory used by the tool to lower memory usage during runtime.

As mentioned in the below AR:

https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/55514.html

It is not in my project directory.

AR#55514 mentioned that this is critical as part of Vivado implementation.

Why is this folder missing,

Should I create and put it there

Hi @tchin123,

Close all your projects of Vivado. Open a new Vivado GUI session - go to tools - Settings - Project - Change option of Default Project Directory to "Specify project directory" where you can add your desired directory path where you want to store your project files -then apply it. (as hown below.)

And then create your project and check that you face the same issue or not.

For the record, I had a similar issue running on Linux and solved it by removing the ~/.Xilinx folder. No idea was that happens though.
