Vivado 2014.1 still crashes without any notice

Jump to solution

I closed my project and reopened it - just to make sure that everything is saved and vivado will not crash.

My first action was "Opend Block Design" and here the Vivado disappeared from screen. The log - files from today are attached.

So it is still recommended frequently reboot the computer to reduce the vivado crashes.

How long have we to wait for the next vivado revision? Will it become more stable?

Bahne

Hi Vijay,

it is my project where I am working on and I have no archive from it at the timepoint of the crash. Please let me know if I should provide the Design at its actual status. How shall I gather the OS information?

Thanks, Bahne

Hi Bahne,
That should be ok. Give the the project as is and let me know the steps you followed.
Which OS are you using(Windows/Linux which version)? I will try to reproduce the crash in same OS.
Thanks,Vijay

Hi Vijay,

I tried to send Infos and archives by EZmove, but got no confirmation. Did you receive my info from this morning?

It was my User IP and data from another crash.

Hi Vijay,

by any reason, my message get lost, so I type it once more.
The EZMove seems not towork - it is busy since a long time and
I was only able to upload one file.
I have a DropBox andcould send you a link so you can download it
from there.

Ca_IP.zip is my IP Core that is necessary to run the current project.
crash2014-04-22.zip is an earlier crash with the same project on another computer.
Both computer run Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit, Service Pack 1

Best regards

Bahne

Hi Mohava,

Thank you for your posting. So we can give comfort each other.

We can think positiv and say 2014.1 is more steady because the crash comes now every time.

The good thing is that there is now a message an you can click "exit".

Then save all and restart your computer. Open Project and Block Design and

Tools | Report | Report IP Status and click 'update IP'

I think that there is a high risk that Vivado will become a flop until the developers will not recognize

that this program is very good for show and bad for real work.

The User IP handling procedure is the best example:

Why is there no update IP (without changing the revision number)?

Why could the Vivado not take a snapshot from my running project, without touching my project? It should just copy all sources without copying the path to it.

All hints on easier handling are very welcome.

Thank you, Bahne

Guys,

This crash problem looks much like mine. To check, verify your project XPR file.

Check if the following tag is there:

<Option Name="Part" Val="part name"/>

If not, this is the cause of your crash. Vivado cannot open the project without knowing which FPGA it is targeted to.
