where can I find the description of the .coe file format to init memory in Vivado BRAM IP?

Jump to solution

Through Google I did stumble accros some links, but these pages seem to be very old and XST related.

https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx10/isehelp/cgn_r_coe_file_syntax.htm

Q1: Are these still valid in Vivado?

Q2: is there any more up-to-date description on the xilinx website or in one of the Vivado User Guides?

Yes Vivado still uses the coe file for the block memory generator.  The customize IP options will even help you create a coe file.
