Chipscope without free running clock

Jump to solution

Hello,

I have a signal whose clock isn't free running.

When run chipscope - I get a message that the tool can't find the clock...which is understandable.

What I want to do is set a trigger (although the clock isn't available at the moment of setting the trigger) and have it wait for the clock to start and the trigger to occur.

Is this possible ?

Hi @shaikon,

No, that's not possible. The clock for the Chispcope/ILA must be free-running and available as soon as the FPGA is done with programming. If you stop that clock (or don't provide it at startup) then the ILA core is going to be inactive and you won't be able to configure it for trigger.

Thanks,

That poses limitations on some debugging capabilities - Not so great...
I hope Xilinx changes that...the Blue Team's Signaltap supports that feature.
