How to use ILA

Hi,

i'm trying to debug a 10Gb MAC design. It does the following: upon reset, it sends 10 frames to a PCS/PMA core.

What i want to do: Look if these frames are actually send. Before and after these frames is send interframe gaps (64'h07070707070707).

Now, i inserted signals in my design to check whether the clock and reset are working properly, and they do. Also i checked if data are sent in general via a 1bit signal, and they are. The only problem is, i cannot really see the signals, they probes in the waveform only show me 64'h07070707070707, which is what is sent after the frames, so i assume the frames are sent but i cannot see them.

I set the trigger condition as 'everything EXCEPT 64'h07070707070707 (!=)), so i'm wondering why the waveform shows me these signals in the first place.

I tried everything, such as specifying the as  capture mode as 'always'. My window data depth is 2048.

Isn't there a chance to have a changing waveform over time while capturing everything that's sent in each clock cycle?

Best wishes

Re: How to use ILA

Hi,

Set the trigger for 07070707070707 and give the trigger position to half of 2048 and see if you are now able to see the data before the 07070707070707.

No, how the ila works is, it capture for a certain period from trigger and dumps it into the BRAM's and displays. Capturing everything in each clock cyle is possible but I guess you cannot capture changing waveforms continously on runtime.

Thanks,
Anirudh

Re: How to use ILA

Hi

You can also try setting the trigger to other data conditions like Address or frame data of 64 bits as this will be a known data if you are sending this for testing.

Satish
