Supported Flash Devices

Jump to solution

Hello,

I am using Vivado and XSDK 2018.2 on a Windows 7 machine. We are working with a custom board and are using the Spansion S25FL256L (S25FL256LAGNFV010) flash memory device.

I am attempting to program the flash with the download.bit file and have tried with other image files as well. I have tried targeting the S25FL256Sxxxxxx1 and S25FL256Sxxxxxx0 devices becuse the S25FL256L device is not listed under Flash Type. This is the message I recieve when I try to program:

Available targets and devices:
Target 0 : jsn-DLC10-0000154b174301
Target 1 : jsn1
Device 0: jsn-DLC10-0000154b174301-13631093-0

Retrieving Flash info...

Initialization done, programming the memory

ERROR: Flash Operation Failed

This error message does not provide much explaination...

The datasheet for the S25FL256L mentions:

  • Serial Command subset and footprint compatible with S25FL-A, S25FL1-K, S25FL-P, S25FL-S and S25FS-S SPI families
  • Multi I/O Command subset and footprint compatible with S25FL-P, S25FL-S and S25FS-S SPI families

I am wondering if the S25FL256L is supported in a newer version of XSDK or if it should work by targeting the S25FL256S device. Does anyone have advice for this, or has anyone been able to succesfully program a S25FL256L device?

Thank you,

Brad

Hi @bhall0107 ,

Please refer this link https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2018_2/ug908-vivado-programming-debugging.pdf (refer from page 337 -338) which contains supported flashes for spartan-7 devices.

Since S25FL256L flash is not listed,it is not supported in vivado 2018.2 but it supports in vivado 2018.3.

Please refer https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2018_3/ug908-vivado-programming-debugging.pdf (refer from 337 to 339) which says S25FL256L flash supports in 2018.3.

Thanks & Regards

Anil B
