2 errors:The file 'system.ucf' and FATAL_ERROR:GuiUtilities:Gq_Application

Jump to solution

Hi guys,

I still met 2 errors when update from EDK 10.1 SP1 to SP2 to implement example projects in VISTA system.

 1.       10.1 EDK - "ERROR:ConstraintSystem:8 - The file 'system.ucf' could not be opened for reading" I follow the solution in http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/31235.htm But when I input chmod 777 data, the output is: no such file or directoryAnd when I input chmod 777 E:/EDK/EDK/data, the output is: permission denied. The same output when input system.ucf

2.  FATAL_ERROR:GuiUtilities:Gq_Application.c:590:1.20 - This application has discovered an exceptional condition from which it cannot recover.  Process will terminate. For technical support on this issue, please open a WebCase with this project attached at http://www.xilinx.com/support.

These two errors happen when I update bitstream.

I don’t know whether it is relevant with permission of VISTA.

Could you give a hand?

Thanks very much.

Hi

Here the solution I got for the first ptoblem.

1- First clean alll the hardware implementation you made before .

2- Go to the EDK\bin\nt   - right click on xbash.exe and select properties.

3- In the  Compatibility Tab select Run as Administrator  - this will give xbash enough previlige to execute correctly.

4- Now run xbash.exe and goto your project directory and execute the following commands:

   >> chmod 777 *

   >> cd data

   >> chmod 777 *

   >> cd ..

   >> cd etc

   >> chmod 777 *

5- Now try to build the bitstream and it should work.

I tested this under VISTA home premium and it did work. If it didn't work or got any permission problems, just try to run "chmod" with the file affected.

I hope this will help ...

Ahmed

Thanks bro,

I can figure out what the hell the problem is.

It trouble me for a long time.

But since it is VISTA Home premium OS, It is not compatible with EDK.

i have to quit using it.

OH!~

I think Xilinx should solve the problem ASAP.

Yell, you are right.

When I use ISE, that's perfect.

But when I use EDK last month, I met problems and I came here.

Is this a forum for communications of using Xilinx software?

And Isn't there workers of Xilinx?

Is your system.ucf file under the data directory?  Can you access the ucf file under the projects tab with a single click?

I also occasionally get the Fatal Gui Error, I run XP but when I restart the project everything will run normally.

Hi golson,

    thanks very much.

i use the examples of EDK, and system.ucf file is under the data directory.

And i can open the ucf file under the project in XPS.

And i attach my report, could anyone help?

Is it really about the OS, because my OS is VISTA home premium rather than business version.

I think you need to figure this out.  Don't worry about GUI error.  Perhaps you could try to change permisions using Windows Gui instead of XBASH.

If you have permission denied you have not been able to change your permissions yet.  What is the current mode set to when you use XBASH to view the file?

Do you have administrator priviledge on this computer?  Or if this computer belongs to a school for example maybe you need to find a IT support person to help.

Gary

Maybe you should try creating another directory for your projects just under the E:/ Drive.  Then look at its permissions.

Hello,

It is true that you need to have admin privileges.

I do not know I am no expert at all.  But I think if ryon can not change the mode of a directory maybe the directory is owned by someone else and perhaps system admin would be required.

Another thing I have found from limited experience with vista is that I have sometimes had troubles with directory permissions also.  I don't run xilinx programs on that pc so I have no clue

about what needs to be done to fix this problem.

I noticed that the directory file says something like spartan3aexample, maybe ryon copied a example project into his computer

if this is the case then maybe the directory is technically owned by someone else (since it is copy of a existing design).   When trying to change the mode of the directory

the computer denies permission changes.  This makes little sense to me unless the directory is not owned by ryon.

Hence my suggestion of creating a new directory and seeing if he can modify the directory permissions this way.

hi,

I also had the error message: "ERROR:ConstraintSystem:8 - The file 'system.ucf' could not be opened for reading." troubling for me for a while.

I tried to change the directory permission through the Windows Vista GUI, as suggested in this post, but it didn't help.

However, what did help was to move the files used by BSB (the project file and the project peripheral repository file) to my desktop and starting my EDK project from there. This way I got ridd of the error message and was able to generate the bitstream.

Hi

I have got a solution.

EDK copy some files from the xilinx-installation-folder including there rights.

I was not owner of the xilinx-installation-folder (including subfolders and files).

Change the owner-rights and it works.

Greetings

Thanks a million, Ahosyney!

Yell, you are right.

I tried the following solution, and it works for the 2 errors.

Anybody else who met the errors can try your solution.

Cd data

Chmod 777 system.ucf

Cd implementation

Chmod 777 bitgen.ut

I am using Vista Ultimate and had the same issues.  I right clicked on XPS and ran as administrator.  I changed the mode of data dir and system.ucf to 777 with xbash and I did not get the contraints error.  I did get a bitgen error and added a CYGWIN variable notsec (or something like that) There is an error report on it.  That fixed that problem.

This is the exact error I was getting - i had to use the EDK command CYGWIN window and chmod the data dir and system.ucf file.  I didn't have a bitgen.ut file until i built again withouth the ucf file error.
