About AXI interface

Jump to solution

Hi,

Well my situation is that i want to implement an embedded system using Microblaze-AXI based system, and forward incorporate PR. This is because at the final stage of project i want to implement the system on that Zynq platforms, so if i have a Microblaze-AXI system, it suppose to be easier to port this system to an ARM-AXI system, am i correct?? or it is completely different?? build a Microblaze-AXI system will be helpful to migrate my design to an ARM-AXI system (Zynq platforms)??

My other question is if i have to learn in deep about AXI interface in order to start to work with my Microblaze-AXI system??, because for example for many years i built Microblaze-PLB systems but i never learn how PLB works, because xilinx gives you "friendly" interface (.e.g. IPIF) to work with your own IP's and for the Xilinx IPs they are allready done, so you only have to worry about how use them from a C application using their APIs, so i never get involve with PLB really, i suppose with Microblaze-AXI will be the same story, right??, so in your opinion when or in what situations do i need to know AXI interfacing??

Thanks for any advice

Creating a AXI-Micorblaze system will definitely be helpful in getting more comfortable with using AXI interface and how to connect the appropriate signals.

You will probably need to be comfortable with AXI interface if you are creating your own custom IP for use in the design. There are some differences in how to create master slave interfaces.  Here is an AR with some example cores:

You may also want to learn the AXI interface for designs that may use a different custom master. In this answer record you can see how you can create a core that does not utilize one of the Xilinx Processor cores:
