Running bare-metal hello world on Zedboard fails with 'Error opening JTAG UART @ localhost:-1'

Hi,

I have put together a screencast of a problem I am having with the Xilinx SDK. I am attempting to load a HelloWorld program in to the Zynq device on the Zedboard, via the SDK toolset.

Screencast:

It is an attempt to follow the HelloWorld tutorial here: http://zedboard.org/content/zedboard-sdk-helloworld-example . As can be seen, I am able to "Program FPGA" from "Xilinx Tools". The trouble comes when I attempt to "Run As", "Run Configurations". I click each tab to show the viewer all settings for running on the FPGA.

In case it is useful, I also include a photograph of my Zedboard setup. Please let me know if either the jumpers are incorrectly positioned, or if I am using the incorrect microUSB slot. I am currently using the J17 slot. Here's the Zedboard setup:

http://www.macs.hw.ac.uk/~rs46/files/zedboard-setup.jpg

As you might expect, I am hoping to see in the terminal "Hello World". Instead, I am seeing "Error opening JTAG UART @ localhost:-1".

Re: Running bare-metal hello world on Zedboard fails with 'Error opening JTAG UART @ localhost:-1'

You have the microUSB cable plugged into the JTAG port. It should be plugged into the UART (J14) port. You may have better luck using the ZedBoard version of the Concepts, Tools, and Techniques tutorial posted here as it is more thorough than the blog post.
