UART problem in SDK's terminal

Hi,

I am not in hardware for long, and I've discovered Vivado and SDK during my intership on doing right now.

During the phase of learning how work the SDK I've follow a tutorial to make an application (which use testperipheral.c)...

- When I run it on my linux computer no matter which port I'm listening (/dev/ttyUSB1,/dev/ttyUSB2...) nothing is displayed by the terminal.

- When i run it on a windows computer (not mine) the port I could listen is COM3 and the information are well displayed.

I precise that both cable UART and JTAG are connected, driver for the JTAG cable have been install (before it it was impossible to connect the board on Vivado HW manager)

I am thinking of a missing driver for the UART cable? Is this the same that the UART?

Any other idea?

Thank you in advance,

Clement

Re: UART problem in SDK's terminal

Hi,

You can also download USB UART drivers from https://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx directly.

Re: UART problem in SDK's terminal

I've try to install the driver, but it seem's that my kernel version is not the required.

it need the kernel 2.6.38, I have 2.6.18... Do you know if there is a chance to find this driver for my kernel? I've search the web during couples of hours without finding anything conclusive...

Re: UART problem in SDK's terminal

The USB to UART drivers mentioned above are only for Xilinx evaluation boards. Are you using an evaluation board?

Re: UART problem in SDK's terminal

Hi,

Could you see the USB to UART bridge up in device manager when you connect and power up the board as shown in screenshot?

Else, you may want to check by replacing the USB UART cable or test with some other board to make sure.

Praveen

Re: UART problem in SDK's terminal

I do not think the question is answered here. The question is about the finding port during Terminal Settings in LINUX system.  Most of answers referred to windows solution.

I have the same problem and my vivado is installed in linux. Do we have a linux solution?

Thanks.
