Unable to generate BSP for simple "Hello World" MicroBlaze program - system.hdf appears incomplete

Jump to solution

I am currently attempting to create a very simple "Hello World" test program with a MicroBlaze processor, on a Nexys-4 board.

I have created a block design containing a MicroBlaze MCS, then synthesised and implemented the design.

I have exported the hardware by going to the implemented design, making sure that the block design is open (as I've seen detailed in other forum QAs), and clicked File > Export > Hardware.  This runs successfully, and I then open the SDK.

It is here where I have had a lot of trouble - within the SDK, clicking File > New > Board Support Package results in nothing happening.

Right clicking in the Project Explorer > Project, then clicking Xilinx > Board Support Package results in nothing being selectable under CPU, and a garbelled UI under "Board Support Package OS".  Double clicking on Board Support Package results in an Error saying "Peripheral data not found for " (this is all that's said - the rest is blank space).

The system.hdf looks incomplete - perhaps this is the cause?  The only information in there is a line detailing the IP blocks present - the microblaze_mcs.  There is no memory map given.

Is this a software bug, or am I doing something wrong here?  I am using Vivado 2015.4

I have attached a copy of the project.

The procedure to generate the BSP for an MCS based hardware project is slightly different. Please follow the procedure below:

Many thanks, that worked.  I originally did try that method but I wondered why a simple export of the hardware from Vivado wasn't working.
