XSA to HDF

Hello everyone,

I'm having an xsa file generated using Vivado 2019.2. I wish to convert it to hdf or generate a hdf file separately using other tools. I came across the petalinux tool. However, am not sure if it helps in the conversion process.

Is there a way to get the .hdf file?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi @varunbaskar

You can use below command in Vivado tcl console

write_hwdef -force C:/Data/ug940/lab1/zynq_design.hdf

My mistake with the title. I edited it now. I wish to convert xsa to hdf. Is it the same command as you've mentioned?

The xsdk version is 2016.2. Vivado in 2019.2. Unfortunately 2019.2 doesn't generate hdf file to be used by 2016.2 xsdk. It only generates xsa. So, i wish to convert xsa to hdf so it can be used by 2016.2 xsdk. I installed Vitis and tried to import the old xsdk project files from 2016.2. But it didn't work as Vitis just deleted those projects automatically.

Hi @varunbaskar

It is not recommended to use different versions of Vivado and SDK.

I would suggest downloading Vitis and follow the below SDK to Vitis migration guide.

yes, that's the link I used for migrating the project to Vitis. That's when Vitis removed all the projects automatically somehow.

Vitis doesn't show any error logs. But I performed the steps again and this time it does show the bit stream and other system related files under the project. Is the elf generation still involved or is that too removed like the hdf?
