Zynq Flash programming issues

On on custom Zynq design using a ZC7020 SoC, there are issues getting newer versions of the tools to program the flash via a Xilinx Platform USB 2 cable. Version 2016.2 works fine. 2017.4 and 2018.2 do not work properly. We would prefer to move fully into a new version instead of building in a new version and programming in an older versoin.

Please assist with any settings, environment variables, etc.that may be causing the problem. The design utilizes QSPI for programming.

Thanks in advance.

It is helpful, if you show the device part number.

We are using a Spansion S25FL128S device that is listed in UG908 as compatible.

The other issue we see is that we will sometimes see the device through the JTAG cable and other times not. We've gone between multiple versions of the tools and multiple OSes (Win 7 and Win 10). I am leaning towards some kind of driver issue as when we were primarily 2016.2 only on machines, we didn't see this kind of issue and were able to run active bare metal debugging on these boards.

Any debugging guidance is helpful.

Thanks.

Hi @skwoods,

what is the exact error that you are seeing while programming the QSPI device? are you aware of this from the 2017.3 tools vivado and SDK needs FSBL to specify while programming the flash. shown below.

are you providing the FSBL as shown above?
