How can I get apt-get install options into my petalinux image?

Presumably you are looking for not just the "apt-get" command, but also the ability to use it to install packages. The former is pretty simple, but the later depends upon having access (Internet) to a large collection of pre-built binaries (in a format that is compatible for your Zynq!)

The path of least resistance is to install either Ubuntu or Debian on your Zynq system. This is larger than Petalinux but comes with apt-get and access to the respective repository of packages that can be installed. There are many tutorials online about setting up Ubuntu and/or Debian on Zynq. Here are just a few:
