I'm brand new to all of this.I don't know how to get started. I have a third party board which contains this SOC (as it appears in the schematic):
Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSOC ZU11EG ZU19EG
I want to install PetaLinux so I'm trying to follow the instructions in the PetaLinx Tools Documentation. I did the following successfully:
petalinux-create --type project --template zynqMP --name test
However, I'm stuck at the next step:
petalinux-config --get-hw-description=<PATH-TO-HDF/XSA DIRECTORY>
I don't know what to substitute for <PATH-TO-HDF/XSA DIRECTORY>. What is the path to the HDF/XSA directory? What is supposed to be in that directory? How do I create the contents of that directory? Do I need to download something? Is there documentation that describes this?
Any help would be appreciated.

The hdf file comes from hardware design with vivado.
If you have your own hardware design, you can add with that command.
But, you don't need your design, you can skip that step.

If you want to install PetaLinux, You can use the User Guide UG1144 not UG1157
UG1157 is PetaLinux Tools Documentation: Command Line Reference Guide

Also does the third party board have a BSP supplied from the vendor that you can use for testing?
If so, just do:
