How to add custom boot logo?

I am working on a simple design for the ZC702 running PetaLinux 2015.4 which displays the console output over HDMI. I am wondering how I can add a custom image which will display at boot prior to the console. I noticed the boot logo option in kernel configuration, but this is only for the Linux logo and also does not appear to do anything when enabled. Is it possible to do this strictly with kernel configurations and scripts, or is the only way to achieve this by running a Qt splash screen at boot (similar to the TRD)?

Re: How to add custom boot logo?

I have not done this for my projects, but I'd recommend looking into the yocto recipe for 'psplash'.  I believe that's commonly used for displaying a custom splash screen before getting to login.
