Issue during Kernel compilation

Jump to solution

Hello,

I tried to compile a new Kernel for my Zynq and got an error:

daniel@daniel:~/Schreibtisch/Media/Zybo_Linux/linux-xlnx$ make ARCH=arm UIMAGE_LOADADDR=0x8000 uImage
scripts/kconfig/conf --silentoldconfig Kconfig
  CHK include/config/kernel.release
  CHK include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h
  CHK include/generated/utsrelease.h
make[1]: 'include/generated/mach-types.h' is up to date.
  CALL scripts/checksyscalls.sh
  CHK include/generated/compile.h
  SKIPPED include/generated/compile.h
  GZIP kernel/config_data.gz
  CHK kernel/config_data.h
  Kernel: arch/arm/boot/Image is ready
  Kernel: arch/arm/boot/zImage is ready
  UIMAGE arch/arm/boot/uImage
"mkimage" command not found - U-Boot images will not be built
arch/arm/boot/Makefile:79: recipe for target 'arch/arm/boot/uImage' failed
make[1]: *** [arch/arm/boot/uImage] Error 1
arch/arm/Makefile:306: recipe for target 'uImage' failed
make: *** [uImage] Error 2

My steps are:

export ARCH=arm
export CROSS_COMPILE=arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi-
git clone https://github.com/Xilinx/linux-xlnx.git
cd linux-xlnx
make ARCH=arm xilinx_zynq_defconfig
make ARCH=arm UIMAGE_LOADADDR=0x8000 uImage

How I can fix this error?
Thank you for help!

The mkimage utility comes from u-boot, specificallty the tools subdirectory. It is normally built as part of u-boot, but you can compile it separately too. You can either modify your PATH to ensure that u-boot/tools is included, or you can copy the mkimage utility to somewhere on your PATH.

Alternatively, your Linux distro may have a packaged version of mkimage available. For example in Fedora/RHEL/CentOS you can do "yum install uboot-utils" which contains /usr/bin/mkimage.
