No boot console (BD-MMP-7Z045-G dev board)

Let me preface by saying I've been going through all the boot console issues in the forums.

Here i what I have done:

I've copied my .dts file that was included in the BSP for the dev board into <project_root>/components/plnx_workspace/device-tree-generation/plnx_arm-system.dts.  There were differences between the files noticed before the copy. (saved the old one so I can get back to it needed)

I've added the serial1 alias in system-top.dts as indicated here.

In components/yocto/source/arm/layers/core/meta/recipes-core/sysvinit/sysvinit-inittab/inittab I've added the the console spawing as indicated here. I've verified its in the root file system that's in the image.ub file.  I've also decompiled the dtb into a dts to verify it looks like the one included from the board BSP.

Any more ideas?

Re: No boot console (BD-MMP-7Z045-G dev board)

Ok, I have the exact same FSBL, u-boot, kernel, and rootfs.  I add a .bit file to BOOT.BIN and it boots.  I take it out and I get the screen in my first post.

Is it required that BOOT.BIN have a bitstream file?  And if so, why?

Re: No boot console (BD-MMP-7Z045-G dev board)

I think this might have to do with the actual development board (BD-MMP-7Z045G) I'm using.  I rebuild the kernel and changed the GPIO Xilinx drivers to build as modules and now I've gotten past that but now I'm here:
