Petalinux 2018.3 kernel panic error exitcode=0x0000000b

Hello I'm working with petalinux 2018.3 and booting board from SD card I have Kernel panic error. I attach the UART output when I boot petalinux. Thanks for the help.

It seems that clock is not stable, in other words, clock is unstable or pll is unlock.

So, I suggest you to make sure the description of clock setting in device tree blob file.

 

If you can shre the following dtb file, I can help you by using device-tree-compiler.

Make sure the following clock settings.

 

- "axi_clk" on DMA

- "dp_vtc_pixel_clk_in" on DP Rx IP

- fclk0/1/2/3 on ZynqMP

  => I suspect them. Are these settings correct ? or Is this structure suitable for your design ?

- clock frequency of video clock

  => It seems fixed "27MHz". But I guess it is not suitable for your design (SDI Rx and DP Tx design).

- ap_clk on v_frmbuf_rd

- ap_clk on vtpg

 

Also, I suggest you to make sure reset tree and polarity of reset port.

 

Would you do them ?

Edit: I noticed that video clock was uncostrained and I don't know where it found the 27 MHz constraint. Now I constrained it to 148.5MHz and Vivado is running.

In other way to solve the kernel panic is when there is no information from back trace 

use gnu tools 

arm-linux-gnueabi-addr2line -e -f <pc> vmlinux 

this gives issue from which file, which function & line no. 

so that we can directly debug/resove  the issue in single step.

Hi

While compiling linux kernel might, you have used  "arm-xilinx- linux-gnueabi- *****  " 

find the path from where arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi-  gcc/gdb/ar/addr2line is present

go to that path & provide the following cmd

here vmlinux is generated for zimage which is loaded in ZC702/Zc706 board

# arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi-addr2line -e -f <pc> vmlinux

I confirmed your posted system_top.dtb file, again.

 

- Make sure clock frequency about misc_clk_1 as 300MHz and misc_clk_2 as 100MHz

- Make sure the setting of fclk0/fclk1/fclk2/fclk3. It is disabled.

- Make sure clock structure. What frequency do you use for AXI4 lite ?

- Make sure the polarity of reset. Especially, ex. AXI interconnect and so on.

- Make sure the setting of DP on PS side. It seems a little strenge.

 

Also, I attached dis-compiled device tree source file.

Would you compare your target setting and this file, too ?

Thanks for your advices. fclk0/fclk1/fclk2 (not fclk3) are enabled in Vivado and infact these clocks work with baremetal code and SDK. It seems to be a petalinux bug that in some cases they are disabled. I read here about this problem https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Embedded-Linux/Enabling-PL-Clocks-in-Zynq-MPSoC/td-p/824893

This is probably the cause of kernel panic error and I have to understand how to solve it. Thanks.

I suggest you the following flow.

 

1) Modify fclkX setting with my uploaded dts file. (Change status from disable to ok)

2) Rebuild dtb file by petalinux or device-tree-compiler.

3) Rebuild FIT file.

 

Would you try it ?

FIT image file means "Flatten Image Tree" file and it includes linux kernel, device tree blob file and ramdisk image.

"mkimage" in u-boot tools can build FIT image file. Of cause, petalinux supports it, too.

I think I did what you suggested:

1) modified system-top.dts writing "ok" for fclk0,fclk1,fclk2

2)Compiled dts to obtain dtb using command:

dtc -I dts -O dtb -o system-top.dtb system-top.dts

3) I replaced the old system-top.dtb with the new one in petalinux project directory (I found 2 system-top.dtb and I replaced them both)

4) I built petalinux project using

petalinux-build
petalinux-build --sdk
petalinux-package --sysroot
cd images/linux
petalinux-package --boot --fsbl zynqmp_fsbl.elf --u-boot u-boot.elf --pmufw pmufw.elf --fpga system.bit

5)I replaced BOOT.BIN and image.ub in the SD card with the new one (image.ub seems not to be changed) and I boot the board

I have again kernel panic errors.

I did something wrong in the procedure?

I have one question.

How do you decide this reset architecture ?

I guess you might be change reset architecture.

Especially, I will change the connection reset port and ext_reset_in.

 

- Cut reset signal from reset port.

- Cut ext_reset_in. (Because at least you need control pl_reset0 by software.)

- Connect reset signal from reset port to ext_reset_in.

I suggest you to make sure reset architecture in your HW design and clock setting in device tree blob, if you use linux.
