Petalinux hanging just as login prompt appears

I am running petalinux 2017.4 on custom hardware with a Zynq Ultrascale+, SOC, ZynqMP.  As petalinux comes up, it hangs, just about the time that the login prompt is issued.  Sometimes I am able to login for about 5 seconds.  Sometimes, not at all.

 

My bootlog is shown at the end of the post.

 

I have read through the other posts that are similar, but have not been able to see which one will help.

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have been loading the images over jtag.  I have also tested helloworld and memory tests using jtag.

 

The run that you see is from a BOOT.BIN that was programmed into flash over jtag and then Linux loaded into memory using tftpboot followed by a bootm command.  So the actual run does  not include jtag.

 

However, I have repeated this sequence 30 times going back and forth with jtag and flash and tftpboot.

 

With that being said, I am not sure what else to look for to see if jtag is not connected.  I have not disconnected it.

 

Thank you for your suggestions.  Let me know if I need to approach the jtag issue differently.

This is looking promising.  I am still testing it.  Thank you!  I will re-post if this fixes the issue.

 

Currently, I have only been able to configure the bootargs from u-boot.  The fix as a petalinux-config did not work, but I am not sure if that has something to do with my tree.

This solved the problem.  I am confused why the code would work on our evaluation board but then fail on a custom-built board.  Does this indicate that our hardware design could be corrected in order to avoid this bug?

I am seeing a very similar problem on my Zynq7000 based board -- the Linux will boot all the way to the login prompt and then lock up, and this happens on every boot-up.

 

I tried some of the solutions given in this post with no success (I understand that these solutions apply to a zynqMP board and not zynq7000, but I thought I'd try anyway):


- Disabling CPU_IDLE in the kernel,
- Booting with the following added to bootargs: clk_ignore_unused cpuidle.off=1,
- and booting with the JTAG disconnected

 

Has anyone experienced this problem on a Zynq7000 board, or have any other suggestions I can try to get passed this issue?

 

I'm suspecting the problem has something to do with my custom .hdf and bitstream, but I've used this bitstream successfully with SDK to run FreeRTOS applications.

 

Here are the steps I took to build Linux. I am building with PetaLinux 2018.1.

% petalinux-create -t project --template zynq --name petalinux-proj

 

% petalinux-config --get-hw-description <directory of my .hdf>
- boot size in Flash Settings increased to 0xc00000 to accomodate bitstream
- MACHINE_NAME set to zc702

 

% petalinux-config -c kernel
- set to CONFIG_DEBUG_ZYNQ_UART0 instead of UART1 (on my board ps_uart0 is used instead of ps_uart1)

 

I then created a BOOT.BIN and flashed to my board:
