Is there a way to switch from init to systemd in Petalinux?

Noticed this question was left unanswered (more than once) so providing a response for future reference.  PetaLinux uses SysVinit and switching to a different init framework is not supported.  Technically, from a BitBake/Yocto perspective, it's possible to reconfigure PetaLinux to use systemd but this would have to be done outside the scope of intended Petalinux functionality.  If it's just a matter of leveraging systemd scripts, it would be best to convert them to SysVinit (an old Python example of this can be found here).
