UltraZed-EG Starter Kit hangs during Linux boot

I'm trying to boot PetaLinux 2017.4 on an Ultrazed-EG from SD card and it's hanging during Linux boot process.

 

Earlier I had another issue https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Embedded-Linux/Ultrazed-EG-Starter-Kit-can-t-boot-from-SD-card-Unable-to-read/td-p/839637, but with help from @vish.bh30 I was able to get past it.

 

Basically there are a few different errors/warnings during the boot process (not sure which if any of them are clues as to the root cause of the problem) and then the boot hangs consistently at a certain point (after outputting message "PLL: shutdown").

 

Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding how to troubleshoot this?

 

 

Steps Taken To Produce SD Card

Great to see that you got the previous issue resolved. PLL Shutdown is due to clock used in the vivado design, Are you using a custom vivadohdf exported to petalinux ?

If so ,

 

then you neet to changes the clocks DPLL and VPLL assignments.

 

Go to vivado desgn and open ultrascale block --> Clock Configuration

You should then select "Output Clocks" and expand Advance Clocks.

 

there is a known issue : AR # 69764 : https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/69764.html

 

under advance clocks you need to find and change the TOPSW_MAIN to DPLL and DP_VIDEO to VPLL.

  • DDR PLL (DPLL): mainly used to generate clocks for the DDR controller.
  • APU PLL (APLL): mainly used to generate clocks for the APU.
  • RPU PLL (RPLL): mainly used to generate clocks for the RPU.
  • I/O PLL (IOPLL): mainly used to generate clocks for the peripheral I/Os
  • Video PLL (VPLL): generates clocks for the video blocks used in the PS subsystem.
