Ultrazed ES1 DisplayPort problem

Hi,

 

so I'm trying to get DisplayPort working on my Ultrazed ES1. I have managed to get Linux (Linaro and Ubuntu) running on the board. Even got the Ethernet working with PHY# change but when ever I try to use DisplayPort I get:

And then it stops.

 

If I disable DP on Vivado everything works fine.

I found out that there are some known issues with DP and following TCL commands should be used according to this:

Because I'm very new to these devices I put here all that I have done if there's some stupid mistake that I'm doing:

- In Vivado created new project with UltraScale-3EG IO Carrier Card. I'm using the red board, not the production version.
- Created block design.
- Add Zynq UltraScale MPSoC
- Run block automation
- Removed AXI so I can run Verification
- Added these TCL commands:

This happens every time I enable DP on Vivado and I'm out of ideas. All SWs that I'm using are 2017.2.

Hi @waldemar,

 

It looks like the issue mentioned in AR#69764. Could you check that you are using the VPLL only for the displayport?

 

Else, you can try to run the FSBL in bare-metal application and see if it hangs or not. If it hangs, you might want to add debug information. (However start by checking the AR)

Hi @florentw,

now I'm a bit confused. I applied the settings as stated in AR# 69764 (see screenshot).  I also patched the Petalinux kernel in my project with the file provided by @sandeepg as explained in the Xilinx Wiki under PetaLinux Yocto Tips / Patching the Linux Kernel of a PetaLinux Project .

 

What else do I have to do?

Clock settings did not resolve the problem. Next I'll try the patch.

And btw didn't say it before but the jumpers on IOCC are JP1 open, J1 and J2 are connected to pins 2-3.

@waldemar have you tried the Avnet example/UltraZed 3EG Starter Kit - Display Port Design 2017.2? I was able to boot from the SD card with the provided BOOT.BIN and image.ub  and it seems to execute the OpenGL ES application, however, my screen stays dark.

@konze just tried that and it worked, got the cube and triangle on screen (DELL U2415).

 

I guess the original problem could be found by comparing device tree files if someone has working solution. Because I'm not that familiar with the system I don't know what files exactly should be compared, and if someone has a working solution?

So could someone provide working device tree or any other files that can be used to solve this issue? Hope that someone knows all files necessary for this investigation. Just a basic configuration where DisplayPort is enabled and working would be nice. Running out of ideas how to get the system up and running with display.

From you previous message you were able to have the DP working with the TRD. Why aren't you taking the vivado design from the TRD? I think the main issue is here, in the configuration of the PS

Thanks for the files but still the same problem.

 

- Downloaded the package
- Unzipped the package

- Started Vivado 2017.2 and used TCL command:
set_param board.repoPaths C:/Temp/avnet_uz3eg_iocc_hw_design-rel-v2017.2/board_files/ultrazed_3eg_iocc/1.0/
- Copied .xdc file to Vivado folder so that Vivado can find it
- TCL command: source C:/Temp/avnet_uz3eg_iocc_hw_design-rel-v2017.2/avnet_uz3eg_iocc_dp.tcl
- Exported hw
- Copied .sdk folder to linux

- Created project:
petalinux-create -t project -s uz3eg_iocc_2017_2.bsp --name disp

- In  system-user.dtsi modified PHY address from 9 to 5 to get network working and added disable-wp to sd-card.
- Added following line to linux-xlnx_%.bbappend:
SRC_URI_append = " file://0001-Add-IDT-5P49V5935-clock-generator-for-Ultrazed-EG.patch"

- Copied the patch file to project

@waldemar I haven't tried @sandeepg solution yet since I'm focusing on a different part right now. I will try it again in January.

 

It seems like the Vivado project provided by @sandeepg is for the ES-1 (evaluation silicon) board and not for the production board we both work with.

 

@sandeepg could you provide the exact steps for setting up the Vivado project so we could try to rebuild it from scratch for the production board?

Thee design I have uploaded is for production as we don't have any ES1. In repo https://github.com/grsandeep85/avnet_uz3eg_iocc_hw_design/tree/rel-v2017.2 it is clearly mentioned in README this is for production.

You can use this as reference to verify and change the output clocks to match with ES1.

have you resolve this problem? I encountered the same error(ultrazed es1),  and I replace the boot.bin which I generated by petalinux to that pre-build by avnet, it works. So it indicate that kernel & devicetree config is fine, there may be some config missed beside the VPLL configuration in  AR# 69764? @sandeepg@florentw
