Using custom rootfs image *and* additional Petalinux rootfs customisation

Hello!

Is it possible to replace the default BSP rootfs with, e.g. the Ubuntu base rootfs, so that I can continue to overlay extra rootfs layers within Petalinux's Yocto?

Specifically, I am not looking to write the contents of my Ubuntu rootfs directly to an EXT4 partition on my SD card. I want petalinux-build to grab my Ubuntu rootfs, apply the additional Petalinux layers (e.g , install libmali-xlnx) and then apply my users layers. I want to get the same SD image out of the build that I would if I hadn't used the Ubuntu rootfs.

Is this doable? Many thanks!
