ZCU102 Petalinux 2021.1 ethernet

I'm attempting to migrate an existing petalinux 2020.2 project to 2021.1 on the ZCU102 board and have started with a baseline to ensure things work as expected.  I started by creating a project via the available 2021.1 bsp for the ZCU102, editing only the static IP address (instead of DHCP).  Once built, I jtag boot as follows:

petalinux-boot --jtag --u-boot --kernel --fpga --bitstream <fpga.bit> --hw_server-url TCP:127.0.0.1:3121

Although petalinux boots, I'm not able to ssh or ping the static ip address I set.

I think I figured out a solution, but it's not what I expected.  To resolve:

petalinux-config ->Image Packaging Configuration->Root filesystem type->(INITRD)
petalinux-config ->Image Packaging Configuration->INITRAMFS/INITRD Image Name (petalinux-image-minimal)

Did the ethernet configuration not take when using initramfs because it didn't find an image?  Strange, and I can't say I really understand why Xilinx chose to make initramfs default instead of initrd and petalinux-image-minimal to make migration easier from previous versions.

Hi @plasmaphase 

Can you try to set the static ipaddress & serverip from u-boot using setenv command & try to ping once before verifying it in Linux.

Ideally it should work if your static ip (Ip address of the board) & server ip are in same domain.

Also run this command "ifconfig eth0 <ipaddress> up" & then ping from linux.

Why would I need to set the static ip from u-boot?  If the "Ethernet Settings" menu in petalinux-config are as follows:

based on the message, "udhcpc: sending discover" it seems as though the static IP settings in config aren't being abided by?

I was able to run the specified command with the results below (I'm able to ping zcu102 now).  So is it possible I'm not loading what I'm building, or is there an issue with setting a static IP via config?  Has the jtag boot process changed between 2020.2 and 2021.1?  Again the boot command I'm using is: "petalinux-boot --jtag --u-boot --kernel --fpga --bitstream <fpga.bit> --hw_server-url TCP:127.0.0.1:3121"

Petalinux 2021.1 by default using the tiny ramdisk(ramdisk.cpio.gz) file system to boot and later searches the EXT4 base rootfs from SD to fecilitate the larger root file system support. You can change this using the 'INITRAMFS/INITRD Image Name' alternatively use the 'petalinux-boot --jtag --kernel --fpga --bitstream <fpga.bit> --rootfs images/linux/rootfs.cpio.gz.u-boot --hw_server-url TCP:127.0.0.1:3121'
